A sense of place is the best description as you step into Paserene’s migratory swallow nest inspired tasting lounge in the beautiful Franschhoek Wine Valley.
Derived from the Latin word Passeriformes which refers to the largest order of birds classified by their perching habits, not only is Paserene home to an impressive portfolio of elegant and crafted wines, but it affords its visitor a bespoke lifestyle experience.
The contemporary, yet classically understated Tasting Lounge, resembles a swallow’s nest. Light wooden cladding is used to create a modern-style ‘crypto-porticus’ offset against rough slate accents, resembling the mud and clay swallows use to build their nests. Glass stack doors allow for the whole building to become an open structure, transforming the beautiful interior into a natural extension of the exterior.
The facilities overlook a small dam on the wine estate, a clever nod towards the swallow’s habit of swooping over water. Art enthusiasts will be kept enthralled by the sculpture works in the garden, while a swing (inspired by their Elements range) and sprawling lawn will keep young ones busy for hours. The recent addition of a conference venue, which is perfect for bespoke private events of no more than 18 people, adds the final touches to what can only be described as breathtaking.
Relax in the comfort of this spectacular ‘nest’ whilst sipping on superb wines and indulging in their small plate offerings. Using locally sourced produce the small plates range from cured organic olives to classic Bitterballen. For those with a bigger appetite, the Paserene Platter – a selection of their small plates – will hit the spot.
In addition to the small plates visitors can enjoy one of the three tastings currently available:
Elements Tasting (R100 per person) – sample five wines from the Elements Range.
Paserene Tasting (R200 per person), which includes a tasting of three of the wines from the Paserene range, as well as their popular Shiner wine.
Food and Wine Pairing (R160 per person) – something savoury and something sweet perfectly paired with specific wines in their portfolio.
For something completely different their selection of wine cocktails are perfect for the hot summer days. What better excuse to sit back and relax on the deck area, whilst taking in the gorgeous views, as their well-trained team take care of your wine tasting needs.
Open seven days a week, from 10am to 5pm (with the exception of Christmas and New Years Day), let Paserene be a highlight on your winelands destination list this year.
